Hedgehog in a parking garage.
My timing has been impeccable so far, but today takes the cake. Hedgehog is a band I loved even before ever meeting them or seeing them play live. This is Atom, the drummer. She's like 3 feet tall, and absolutely slays. They basically only played one show this year, just a few weeks back, and I missed it. I pushed hard to meet with them. Josh Feola asked them to play a secret show, which they declined, due to recording a new record. So they agreed to let me come to the studio with them. I asked to film a practice, and they accepted.
It was mostly new songs, straying away from their fast, hectic punk rock, to a slower coo. Spectacular. Upon wading through the parking garage to their practice space, I hear familiar guitar. Carsick Cars, another Beijing staple, were playing in the next room. Too perfect. Zo leads me in, I say hello, and catch a couple songs. Finally met up with Shannon Aliza, an old friend.
Tomorrow, Carsick Cars play with THE DYNE, who I'm extremely excited to meet, and the next day, the final P.K.14 set I'm able to catch. Beijing, you've been too kind so far. More soon. Onward!
