Xi'an crazy

Xi'an! Holy shit. I was to meet up with Feng Fan of the System Error crew. The airport staff vehemently denied his directions, citing a better way, but I ignored them, and jumped a bus to meet him at the Bell Tower. I'm glad I did. After the bus almost killed about 7 people on the drive in, I saw why he gave me the directions he did.

This city is  bonkers. We sit down to one of the best meals I've had in China, and in this street teeming with crazy, a full on fight breaks out. He's quick to point out this doesn't happen often. Tomorrow's show, it's one of the last their crew is putting on. They're all moving after school. We're going to try and do a last minute screening of the film! There's gonna be a lot to tell from this city. I can already tell I'll wish I had more time. 

Sichuan Hot Pot

Sichuan hotpot with Hiperson, Zaza, and Xiaobin. The exact same place I ended my trip here last time. There's a deep love for this stuff here. A giant boiling cauldron of ultra-spicy oil. You grab whatever's on the plate, in this case, mini catfish, brains, blood, lotus root, and more. Take it for a swim, dip it in garlic and cilantro oil to take some of the heat away. Such a great first 3 days in China, with totally unexpected friends in town that I met the last trip. Today I trek to Xi'an. The halfway point to Beijing. I'll meet up with a DIY crew called SYSTEM ERROR, for a show tomorrow. Sounds noisy and amazing. Can't wait. See you in one month, Chengdu! 

AWEH x The World Underground

In the spring of 2014, I ran a fundraiser for what will become Episode 2 of The World Underground.  Joining forces with AWEH.tv, we attempted to capture a moment in time on a mind-melting, booze soaked tour through N.E. China, Japan, and Korea.  The next round of images is from this tour.  Enjoy.

Back to Chengdu, China. After 30 hours and 4 flights, It didn't quite click that I was in China until the smells of Sichuan hit me on the cab ride to my hotel. I layed down and mulled over my next move. I texted Stolen to see if anything was happening. He said they were practicing in 2 hours. Minutes later, Hiperson called and said they were practicing in the same space in 20 minutes. Though delirious, I grabbed my gear and immediately jumped in a cab.

Who do I see upon arrival but one of my favorite people on the planet, Zaza from After Argument, who lives in Beijing. What are the odds? I did my best to film little bits and pieces of it all, barely able to holds my arms up. I am a very, very lucky man. It begins. Onward!!! ...but for now, back to bed.
